I'll be speaking in my hometown this week. I'll be presenting at the Philadelphia Area New Media Association (PANMA) meeting for January.
Topics:
- jQuery Mobile
- PhoneGap
- Typekit
- Edge
- CSS Shaders
Description:
Adobe and HTML5
In the past few months, there has been a number of new tools and new services from Adobe for HTML5. Some of these tools, like PhoneGap Build and jQuery contributions are aimed at developers and some, such as Edge, are more focused on designers. Adobe Evangelist Terry Ryan will give an overview and demos of these and other tools.
The meeting is on Thursday, January 26th at 6:00PM. It will be at the Huntsman Building at 38th and Walnut on Penn's Campus.
I was originally scheduled to help out my colleague Kevin Hoyt as a TA. Turns out that there was a slight scheduling SNAFU and I'm taking a full slot. My topic:
The Future of HTML5 Motion Design
HTML5 and CSS3 are hot, driven by an explosion of new, Internet connected devices. While they offer many new features that should allow you to do the types of things that you previously did in Flash, actually making it happen is really hard. Until now.
If you weren't sure, I'll be talking about Adobe Edge, our HTML5 animation tool. It's currently in beta, and looking pretty cool.
So if you're in NYC, and want to get some dirt on where Adobe is going with HTML animation or just to get close to some of the foremost experts on the web, you really got to check out Webvisions.
It looks like I never got a description into the good folks at 360|Flex about my session. Sorry about that.
Building Mobile Apps for Multiple Devices with Flex
Building apps for multiple devices isn't just as simple as redoing your existing apps in Flex Hero, and running Export Release Build in Flash Builder. Getting applications to work on multiple screen takes thought and work in:
- Design
- Coding
- Configuration
- Packaging
The session will cover topics including:
- Application DPI
- Mobile Design
- Simulating various Screens
- MXMLC
- Command line packaging
- ANT
- Publishing for multiple stores
- and more
It's a high level exploration of these issues, and will touch on content that is addressed deeper in other 360|Flex projects.
It's time has also been changed from the paper schedule. It will take place:
Monday at 10:50 AM in Salon C.
I'm heading to Southern California in two weeks to do a miniature User Group tour. I'll be talking about development for the BlackBerry PlayBook using Adobe tools. I'll also cover ColdFusion as a Mobile Backend. If you're in Southern California, and close to one of these meetings I invite you to stop in.

I'm giving an information session on Flash Catalyst to educators and students at the AIGA Raleigh event: New Contexts / New Practices. I wanted to post all of the go to links in one place for attendees, instead of making them copy a whole bunch of them off of my slide deck.
So here they are:
Lanyrd.com launched last week. It's a site that basically tracks conference information via twitter. So you use your twitter credentials and sign up for various conferences as an interested party, an attendee, a speaker, or an organizer. Lanyrd.com then presents this information about conferences along with hash tags and other information.
That's what it does today. In the future there are plans to do real-time tracking of conferences, posting of materials, etc., etc. They also have some features around book and speaker promotion. The future stuff sounds interesting, but the present features are what really got me. How many times have you been to a conference only to find out that people who you talk to all the time on Twitter were there and you missed them because you didn't see that they were there until the conference was in full swing? This single-handedly sells Lanyrd to me.
Here are are some upcoming conferences I'm going to/tracking so you can see what I mean:
Definitely check
Lanyrd.com out. And if you're going to any conferences, participate. If you find me at a conference due to Lanyrd, I'll buy you a beer.
BFusion and BFlex are right around the corner.
I'll be there to give the BFusion keynote and talk about superfast application building using Apptacular.
I believe my colleague Paul Trani will also be there, and is giving the BFlex keynote.
And with such a killer lineup, Bloomington, Indiana will be the place to be this September 11 and 12th.
I'm happy to say I'll be at the Heartland Developers Conference in Omaha Nebraska this year.
I'll be talking about ColdFusion, and how it can power truly rapid RIAs. In order to explain the whole workflow, I'll be touching on ORM, scripting, Flash Catalyst, Flex 4 and Flash Builder.
Additionally, two other Adobeans will be making the trip, Paul Trani and Kevin Hoyt. Here's our lineup:
So hope to see everyone in Omaha this September 8-10.
After Scotch on the Rocks, Ray Camden, Ben Nadel, Claude Englebert , Alison Huselid and myself are going to tour around Europe, spreading the ColdFusion goodness to the continent. I for one can't wait.
